My Birthday during COVID: Botanical Gardens NYC & Food Places
It’s my *25th* Birthday (haha)! Happy Birthday to ME! Time to head over to the Botanical Gardens NYC, YAY!
I have been really vibing with nature lately (we do trails almost every weekend), so I definitely wanted to incorporate something outdoorsy for my birthday outting. I felt the New York Botanical Garden would be perfect. It’s outdoors amongst the trees (just thought of The Lorax as I typed that, haha) and of course, I could get some cute pictures with flowers!
My daughter loves flowers and being outdoors too, so it was definitely something we were both looking forward to. Here pictured are my birthday flowers. I pruned the excess petals and made a rose water spritzer and toner with it, you can check that our here!
My birthday landed on a Wednesday this year, and it turns out the Botanical Gardens does FREE Wednesdays. I was like, ‘Well, Happy Birthday to me!’ You still have to reserve your tickets and time slots (and you have to get there within an hour of your reserved time slot or you risk forfeiting your ticket).
Getting to the Botanical Gardens: Parking & Tickets
We have two kids, and it can be tough to get out of the house on time! I wanted to put a bit of makeup on being that it was my birthday and all, but it had been a while since I’ve done that, so it took a bit of extra time (eek!).
Luckily there was no traffic, and the parking lot ($20 for inside lot) was fairly empty. We booked the 11am time slot and got there a few minutes before 12.
I had the ticket page ready and loaded prior to getting to the ticket stand. There have been TOO many instances where I load the page when I get to a stand and the phone wants to act up, and I have to go to customer service or blah blah, you know the drill…I just did NOT want to deal with that on my birthday!
Inside the Garden
We’re in-Woo-Hoo! As soon as I step in, the vibe just feels super chill. Kinda’ like when you’re in a garden (haha). They ask that you keep your mask on, but didn’t have restrictions for the children (my daughter is 3 and they didn’t question age).
There were barely any people and when we did see people, everyone kept really good distance. At some points, it felt like we had the garden to ourselves-that combined with a nice cool breeze was just the perfect combo I needed for a blissful birthday.
There is an outdoor patio area serving up drinks and snacks. They also have beer, but you have to purchase a food item if you want a beer. My hubs got a beer, and I got a perrier and a bag of Vickie’s sea salt chips to snack on. Sometimes you just feel peckish, you know?
Chill Place To Eat For Your Birthday
After our super relaxing stroll in the Botanical Garden, we head over to this place in Inwood (under 15 min drive) called Garden Café. The parking isn’t phenomenal in that area, but we were lucky and found parking right away.
They have outdoor bar type seating right in front, and also have a super cute patio in the back of the restaurant. There is a walkway that is 2 store fronts away (in between the church and the nail salon) that allows you to walk to their patio without having to go through the restaurant.
It is perfect if you have a stroller. There is nothing like a place that accommodates strollers, I tell ya!
They actually rent out the entire space for parties, which is SUPER cute, and feels very private and garden-like. There are even 2 small trees in the middle of the patio.
They use a mix of benches and seats, and have strung bulbs for night lighting. The patio benches have large umbrellas for shade.
When we walked in, the waitress lets us know we can sit wherever we like, so we chose a bench in a corner that slid the stroller easily in.
What Did We Order?
We ordered calamari and a quesadilla (for my daughter) as a starter. Hubs ordered the grass-fed burger and fries and I ordered a lamb burger with a side salad. Mine came with mint yogurt on the side, omg so good!
We also ordered fruit for the kids to share (it brought bananas, strawberries, tiny cut pears and a few citrus pieces). Overall, the atmosphere, food, and service were really good! I would definitely recommend and go back.
Down the block there is a dessert place called Choc NYC. If you’re in that area, this is a MUST! They have individual desserts and full cakes. We got a cake called Chocolate Jubilation. It was DIVINE!
We have tried a few of their individual desserts, and everything from there tastes heavenly!
Overall, my birthday was peaceful and filled with so much happiness. We all enjoyed the Botanical Garden, the Garden Cafe, and the delicious cake from ChocNYC. I am so grateful I was able to enjoy the day with my loved ones.
